Gypsy Available July 27? *UPDATED*

I am not gonna lie. I know there are a lot of mixed feelings about the new and upcoming Gypsy that Provo Craft has been promoting recently, but I am excited.

For those who aren’t as crazy about their Cricut as I am, and don’t keep up with all the latest news and information, the Gypsy is a new handheld gadget that will allow the user to create on the go. It’s like a mini computer, but for crafting. It has Design Studio loaded on the device, and you don’t even need your cartridges to cut like you do on your Cricut machine. Now, it doesn’t actually cut your images, you still need a Cricut, but you can load up all of your cartridges, take it anywhere and design on the go. Then after you are home and back to your Cricut, you plug the Gypsy into your Cricut and can cut out anything you’ve created.

There has been some controversy of late about loading your carts onto the Gypsy. At first it was thought that once loaded, your original carts were rendered empty and useless. It has since come out that this is not the case.

The release date of the Gypsy was set for “late fall” as far as I last checked, but now I am gathering that it will be released on July 27. I haven’t found anyone selling or doing pre-orders for it, except for on eBay.

A seller by the name of tropically-yours has five Gypsys up for auction as of now. I was a bit leery about this since I have not found anything else stating the release date being July 27. This is obviously a big deal, as it has been on the homepage for months, you would think they want to make a big deal about the release date. Curious, I sent the seller a quick email using eBay’s ask seller a question link regarding the actual ship date of the product. You can never be too careful about these things. The response was:

It’s being revealed on the 27th, launched on the 28th. That’s all I know right now.

The benefit to bidding on it this early is to be one of the first to own it once Provo starts shipping it out. I will post more information and details as I learn it.

After reading and re-reading the auction page, and the response from the seller, I have come to this conclusion:

While I personally have never purchased anything from tropically-yours, I have bought an extensive number of items on eBay over the years, some even high ticket items such as this, and have only had positive experiences. The seller claims to be a Provocraft reseller and has 100% positive feedback, and has quite a bit of Provo Craft product in his eBay Store. The seller claims that the item will be released and available to order on July 27 and will be shipped immediately after the auction end, and I can’t see any reason why this is not the case, however you should do your own research and come to your own conclusions before purchasing an item as valuable as this. So if you are as die hard about Cricut as I am, this might be something you want to check out. I know for certain that I will have a Gypsy, the question of when, I do not know.

Well, the seller removed all five Gypsy listings last night. He did not offer any explanation, but digging a little further and reading the Q&A at the bottom of this auction gives some insight.

Another user, apparently another Provo Craft reseller, let him know that while he might be able to order them starting on July 27, they would not be shipping until the fall. The seller responded by saying that he would take the auctions down. Looks like a case of the seller making some assumptions that were not correct.

Another mystery solved. I must say that I’m a little disappointed, I had hoped it was true and that I could order my Gypsy on Monday. But, as they say, all things come to those who wait.
